The DUP and the pro Life stance.

Standard

Some people are agahast that the DUP might support the Tory Government. One of the reasons for the DUP being so monstrous is their pro Life attitude.

A significant minority of people in the United Kingdom view abortion when not medically necessary as being abhorrent. It is staggering that this belief is now considered anathema.

In Northern Ireland a termination is only permitted when there is a significant threat to the health of the mother.

In the Republic of Ireland abortion is not allowed either. Termination is only permitted when the woman’s health is seriously jeopardised by the continuation of the pregnancy. Somehow this does not make the Irish Government totally unacceptable interlocutors on Northern Ireland. The hypocrisy is stunning.

Many of those who revile the DUP think it essential that Dublin has a role in Northern Ireland but that the DUP must have no role in London. Logic? Fairness? No one from a constituency in the Republic of Ireland sits at Belfast or London yet these people are to have influence there. I agree with the Good Friday Agreement and accept the Irish Government’s role in NI. My point is that the DUP must also be permitted to assist the UK Government>.
