Teacher shortages and immigration.

Standard

Scotland has a teacher shortage of 700. This paucity of teachers is caused by several factors. Teachers are blackguarded by politicians and they are subjected to bogus allegations of paedophilia. They are underpaid and overworked with pointless bureaucracy. Immigration also means there are more children who need education.

It is absolutely right that immigrant  are given a free education. This necessarily puts strain on the school system. This does not make immigrant parents or children bad at all.

However, we must face the fact that the more people who move in the more teachers are needed. There are several reasons for the shortfall in teachers but immigration is one that few people will talk about. Immigrants do not take away teachers  – they cause the need for more.

Some immigrants are teachers and thus help to solve the problem. This is why we need selective immigration.

The 700 teacher shortage in Caledonia is more acute than the figure makes it appear. In English and History there is an oversupply. In Maths, Chemistry and Physics the paucity is severe. The situation is aggravating all the time. Having too many Geography teachers does not compensate for the shortfall of IT teachers. This is why a candid discussion of immigration is needed.

Partition and Brexit.

Standard

Nationalists caused the Partition of Ireland. In the 1840s Home Rule was mooted. At that time unionists called for Ulster to be partitioned from the rest of Ireland if Home Rule passed.

The Home Rule Party agreed to Partition with great reluctance in 1914. They intended it to be temporary. Sinn Fein agreed to it in 1921 at the Treaty. Dail Eireann ratified that in 1922 and an election upheld the result. Nationalists caused Partition. There would have been no Partition without secession. Even if all of Ireland had left the UK there would still have been a Partition. It would have been a division in the British Isles.

It was moronic to leave the UK when we did almost all our trade with the British Empire. SO many of our people found work in GB or the dominions and colonies.

Now Brexit has brought the border issue to the fore. The United Kingdom is absolutely entitled to leave the UK as specified in the Treaty of Lisbon.

Clissaire shows her anglophobia. She wants NI to leave the UK and join the Republic. Fair enough. She wants Scotland to leave the UK. Again it is a reasonable opinion. She then said she wants England and Wales to go down in flames. She says other states should not help as the ENglish and Welsh have caused this. This vitiates the sympathy she said she feels for the Remain voters.

Should UKIP dissolve?

Standard

The United Kingdom Independence Party had one aim: to get the UK out of the European Union. The Brexit referendum means that the United Kingdom will indeed withdraw from the EU. Despite UKIP being formed as a single issue party it developed policies on all sorts of issues. UKIP should not disappear now since it needs to ensure that the government honours its vow and brings the UK out of the European Union.

There is much debate about the sort of Brexit that should be implemented. UKIP people tend to feel stronger on this subject than most. They would plump for a hard Brexit. Many other Leave voters would tend to want a soft Brexit. There is not a binary choice of course. There is no precise definition of soft or hard Brexit.

However, once Brexit is complete then UKIP should consider its future. It was founded by people who were deeply anxious about excessive EU integration. Indeed the very foundation of the EU troubled them. Some of them had been in favour of the EEC but then that transmogrified into the EU. Those who founded this party did not seek elected office for themselves. The party was miniscule and penniless. By sheer drive and grit they may something happen that most thought was utterly impossible.

Farage said he thought he could rely on Tories, Labour and Lib Dem people to prevent the EU going so wrong. He is a former Conservative Party member himself. Once the UK is out of the EU is it back to the status quo ante?

In token of UKIP’s disinterested patriotism it might be right for the party to cease to exist once its service has been performed. It existed chiefly to bring about British independence.

UKIP has a certain brand. It has an identity around right wing libertarian policies. There may be scope for such a party to continue. However, having accomplished its principal goal it might be time for UKIP to fold. UKIP members can join mainstream parties and bring their influence to bear on Labour, the Lib Dem and the Conservatives. Among Labour people there is deep antipathy towards UKIP. Labour’s bigtory probably reflects their fury at UKIP courting many working class Labour voters with evident success.

I am inclined to say that once Brexit is achieved in about three years UKIP should break up. I concur with its policies more than with any other party. Yet I am unsure. I shall have to keep my opinion under review.

What will happen in the US election?

Standard

Some people are saying the Trump campaign is in meltdown. Much though I would like to believe this I am afraid such forecasts are overly optimistic.

Trump will lose but not by much. He will lose by 8 points. Despite being only narrowly ahead in Texas he will win that state.

As the result is clear some people will feel they can indulge themselves in a vote for a minor party. If it was neck and neck not many people would treat themselves to a vote for the Greens or the Libertarians. Because of this Hillary will not win by a landslide.

Despite the small parties doing well neither of them will win a state. It is a measure of disillusionment with the major parties that the two small parties will get over 10% of the vote for the first time in a century.

Trump keeps bleating about a rigged election. A few days ago he denied the polls were right. He is so childish and emotional that he cannot face unattractive facts. If he dislikes the truth he pretends that the truth is false. Now he has been compelled to acknowledge that he is behind in the polls.  He is falling a little further. He boasts that he is a winner. In fact he is a huge loser. He has had some calamitous business failures. His hundreds of millions of losses have ensured he has not had to pay tax for almost 20 years.

Trump is not as wealthy as he boasts. A journalist said this 5 years ago. Trump threatened to bring him to court. Trump did not make good on this  – the same as most of his public pronouncements.

Hillary is pulling ahead in the race. She is self-assured enough now to campaign outside swing states. She is succouring candidates down ballot – that means gubernatorial, senatorial and House candidates.

Donald Trump is such a wimp that he is blaming everyone but himself for his failure. He says the media is unfair. Boo hoo. He has his enemies in the media. This is partly his own fault for insulting journalists in the most disgusting terms for asking fair questions. He also has journalists who are his publicists – many in Fox News. Many journalists are reporting fairly.

He is his own worst enemy. He has wrecked his chances by his endless lies and many foul insults. He has provided oodles of ammunition to his opponent.

Trump does not even qualify as an adult. He has no maturity and never accepts when he is wrong. He never takes responsibility. He is a loose cannon. He has no discipline and cannot stay on message. Kelly Conway briefs journalists about his Gettysburg Address – it will be heavy on policy. Trump them uses it to savage women who very credibly claim to have been sexually assaulted by him. He cannot stick to his script.

For Republicans it is damage limitation time. Some of them were day one abominators of this gargoyle. But many are rats off a sinking ship. They have only abandoned him when it became blatant that he was a calamity. Their only hope is to abjure any allegiance to him. Then they might salvage something from this election in the Senate and the House.

Evan McMullin is doing well in Utah but not so well as to deny the state to D Trump.

Trump is rich but that does not make him smart. He is capable of malapropisms. He said ”hollowed” instead of ”hallowed ” in relation to Gettysburg.

Steve Schmidt, Frank Lunz and Karl Rove are all saying Trump will lose. This is demoralising the Republican base. Some of them will not vote as it is pointless.

I have seen some you tube videos saying Trump will win. Only one of them showed any pseophological method. It was just wishful thinking from the others.

Trump spreads the very dangerous lie that the election is fixed. He provides no supporting evidence at all. This will de motivate his supporters. Fewer of them will cast ballots. His support may sink lower. He is a self-confessed loser. What a brat not to accept that he lost fair and square.

Republicans have lost the popular vote in presidential elections 5 times out of the last 6. When they won in 2004 they had a war president and prosperity. The Democrats have many advantages including more money. Their candidate also has her husband as an ex president on her side. He carries much weight. The Democrats also have the demographics moving in their direction.

Is this Trump’s last hurrah? Maybe this is a last ditch effort to save his crumbling business empire. He is a malevolent narcissist.   I pray that he dies of a heart attack. I would then say – Good riddance.
