Ched Evans is free.

Standard

I am elated that Ched Evans has had his appeal allowed. His conviction has been found to be unsafe. He was wrongfully convicted of rape a few years ago. His girlfriend nobly stood by him despite his infidelity.

His co accused was acquitted at the time. Ched Evans is a victim of extremist feminist hysteria. Certain bigots believe all accusations must be true. They are vindictive and wish to deny people fair trials. They hate male heterosexuality. They come up with rape shield laws to prevent the defence being able to look into the background to the case. Pertinent evidence is withheld form the court. The accused is named in the media which did not used to be case. The accuser s allowed to keep her name secret.

Mr Evans now faces a re trial. The law allows this in the United Kingdom. In some appeals the appellant is set at liberty and no re trial is ordered. In this instance where Mr Evans has to stand trial again surely this breaches the spirit if not the letter of the double jeopardy rule.

Mr Evans bravely refused to express remorse to be let out early. He did nothing wrong. The complainant had drunk alcohol on the night in question but so had he. It is absurd to say that this vitiated her consent. If she was unconscious then yes she could not consent. We are reaching the stage where if a woman has consumed any alcohol several hours before intercourse than any sexual act is seen as a crime. This is a grossly unjust situation. I salute those who stood by Evans in his ordeal. Many bigots called for his club to drop him. Jessica Ennis Hill was one of those. Even if he had committed rape there is no reason why he should not play professional football.
