The Green Lady.

Standard

There is a boarding school in deepest England. This school is known as Grange House. Grange House was once the home of a well to do family. There once lived a woman in that house. She was known as the Green Lady because that was the colour she always wore. She has an obelisk put up in the grounds to commemorate her son who died tragically young. A tunnel from the house connected the house to the obelisk. There was a rumour that the tunnel came out under the floor of the library. On the field in front of the house there was a ridge in the grass leading right to the obelisk. Was this where the tunnel lay?

The school was spartan and had no carpets on its corridors. Long corridors had wooden floorboards.

Late at night boys or girls going to the lavatory. Sometimes they would run back to their dormitories in terror. They would be gibbering. They reported seeing a thin old woman clad all in green hovering in the air. Her feet did not touch the ground. She simply stared at them unblinkingly. Sometimes she held a book with the spine pointing forward. Her right index finger would be on the spine of the book. There was a single letter. It was a capital ”E”. The E stood for education.
