Steymann v Staatssecretaris voor de Justitie


this is a 1988 case touching the free movement of workers

Udo Steymann brought an action against the Dutch Secretary of State fr Justice

He was a Germna plumber lvijg in the Netherlands. He was part of the Bhagwan community. He worked for them and was not paid as such. He was given bed and board. this religion community had a policy of proving for its people and not paying them money

Was he a worker and allowed to live there? He had been denied a reisdenyc permit

The court held that he was a worker.

his work was genuine and not marginal and ancillary. This followed  simialr delison in Levin 1982.
