Bosman ruling

Union Royale Belge des societes de foot v Bosman

1995. freedom of movement. and freed om of associaiton’ Bosman was a footballer playing in Belgium

this ended restrictions on foreign players in football leagues

players are allowed to chaneg clubs at the end of the season without paying a transfer fee

this is a consolidation of three cases

1990 Bosman tried to leave Liege and move to Dunkerque a team on France

Dunkerque refused to pay a transder fee to Liege

Liege refused to let him go.

Bosmans pay was cut because her was no longer a first team player

ECJ heard the case

it was a restraunt of trade

it then became v difficult to stop people moving to work in other EU countries

Born Belfast 1971. I read history at Edinburgh. I did a Master's at UCL. I have semi-libertarian right wing opinions. I am married with a daughter and a son. I am allergic to cats. I am the falling hope of the not so stern and somewhat bending Tories. I am a legal beagle rather than and eagle. Big up the Commonwealth of Nations.
